Hi, I’m Bee, and I’ve been at Lanta Animal Welfare longer than almost any cat here.
When I arrived, I was covered in sores and open wounds, the kind of skin condition that takes months, not days, to bring under control. The team has worked on it for over a year now: medicated treatment, a cone I hated wearing, monthly parasite prevention, one flare-up after another. These days I don’t have to worry about surviving outside with wounds no one’s treating. I’m checked on, fed well, and cared for without having to fight for any of it.
But here’s the honest part. My skin isn’t something that gets cured. It’s something I’ll need help managing for the rest of my life, calm stretches where I look completely fine, followed by flare-ups that need quick treatment before they get worse. I had one only a few months ago.
I know what that means for me here. Cats with ongoing medical needs, especially ones like me who take a while to warm up to people, don’t get picked as often. I’ve watched younger, flashier cats find homes while I waited. My odds of finding a family of my own may be slim, but I’ve made my peace with that
What I haven’t made peace with is needing help and not asking for it.
